Cairns Maximum Temperature 95 Years Later

The Cairns Post newspaper is archived in Trove as digital reproductions of the original publications. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/?q=

Many published temperature observations are kept in 1924 Cairns Post newspaper publications, provided by the Bureau Of Meteorology monitoring station at the Cairns Post Office. There was not any ‘cherry picking’. The Trove search was ‘Cairns weather’. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?q=cairns+weather

The Bureau Of Meteorology also have records in 1924, designated as #13010, the Cairns Post Office. http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/cdio/weatherData/av?p_nccObsCode=122&p_display_type=dailyDataFile&p_startYear=1953&p_c=-192459547&p_stn_num=031010

In 2019, the Bureau Of Meteorology records are from #31011, Cairns Aero. http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/cdio/weatherData/av?p_nccObsCode=122&p_display_type=dailyDataFile&p_startYear=&p_c=&p_stn_num=031011

This information provided a comparison to be made from dates in 1924 to the same dates in 2019.

But firstly, are the 1924 details reliable?

The digitally reproduced published information from 1924 can not have been altered and must have been published as provided, but for some reason this information is not identical to the records from the Bureau Of Meteorology #31010 for the same dates in 1924.

The published temperature details needed to be converted from Fahrenheit (old temperature scale) to Celsius (new temperature scale) to enable a comparison to be made. In keeping with BoM temperature records, all conversions from F to C were rounded to one decimal place.

22 published temperature records from 1924 have been used, with an average temperature of  87.5 Degrees Fahrenheit. (30.8 Degrees Celsius). The same BoM records in 1924 show an average temperature of 32.1 Degrees Celsius, with only 4 BoM records at the time being equal to the published details of the time.

These uncertainties provided the following hypothesis;

1.         In 1924 was the publisher provided correct or incorrect details by the Bureau of Meteorology?

a.         Who knows?

2.         In 1924 did the Cairns Post publish the correct or incorrect details?

a.            Who knows?

3.         In 1924 did the Bureau of Meteorology correctly record the details?

a.         Who knows?

4.         Since 1924 have the recorded details been changed?

a.         Possibly. The BoM have previously stated that adjustments have been made to past records. Which ones and by how much … who knows?

5.         In 1924 was there a 1.3 Degrees Celsius difference between fact and fiction?

a.         Possibly. But not knowingly at the time.

6.         Is only 18% of the information accurate in 1924?

a.         This accuracy presents a huge problem by showing that only 18% of past records may be precise, consequently creating Climate Change claims that may only be 18% comparable to past information.

As these uncertainties are all that there is, lets go with what there is … both sets of information.

A comparison can then be made from records in 1924, both published and recorded, to the records from the BoM Station #31011 in 2019.

The comparison between 1924 and 2019 displays a 2019 average of 1.1 Degrees Celsius less than published in 1924 and 2.4 Degrees Celsius less than recorded in 1924.

The 2019 records show a decrease in average temperature records to 29.7 Degrees Celsius, compared to those published in 1924 (30.8 C) and those recorded in 1924 (32.1 C).

This comparison clearly shows a decrease in matching temperature records for Cairns 95 years later.

There is not any indication of continual warming in Cairns for 95 years.

 Just another example.
